The 18 year old who was convicted of vehicular manslaughter in Texas and received probation has been caught with his mother in Mexico. Ethan Couch apparently fled the country while on probation, seemingly to avoid the requirements of supervision. In handling numerous cases like this in my career, he was extremely fortunate to receive probation in the first place. To squander that opportunity shows an incredible lack of judgment on the parts of both he and his parents. This is a tragic story with an ending that illustrates Couch did not deserve such a successful resolution to his case. Some are deserving of breaks, obviously he doesn’t fall into that category.
